Abstract
This research aims to analyze the bios of volunteer translators from the World History Encyclopedia website, tracing their profile, identifying whether they have a degree, their relationship (or not) with the field of Translation, and their involvement as professional translators. In addition, the research seeks to identify similarities and differences between these volunteers’ profile in order to better understand and bring greater visibility to these translators. The present work is justified by the growing use of voluntary translation by various organizations, institutions, and projects to expand their reach, especially in the case of non-profit organizations, such as the World History Encyclopedia. This is a qualitative and descriptive research that analyzes the bios on the profiles of the volunteer translators from the site. Based on authors such as Baker (2018) and Zwischenberger (2024), this work provides a brief overview of voluntary translation practices, offering essential insights to more deeply understand the context of these volunteers. The results show that voluntary translation is a transversal practice, carried out mainly by individuals with a degree, although not always in the field of Translation, and that most do not work as professional translators.
