Abstract
Sexual and gender minorities face a long history of marginalization, despite the constitutional guarantee of human dignity. The State is ineffective in public policies and legislation for the LGBTQIAPN+ population, in addition to often reinforcing prejudice. By considering school as a space for socialization and, simultaneously, for conflicts and inequalities, this research focuses on the challenges faced by trans people without access to and retention in basic education. The study was carried out in Ituiutaba-MG with transsexuals and transvestites over 18 years of age, with the purpose of identifying whether there are obstacles, and what they are, experienced in the school environment and in the assistance received from the educational team. The main objective was to give voice to these experiences and analyze factors that lead to school dropout, relating them to Judith Butler's concept of the abject body and the denial of the right to education. The existence of internal and external barriers to the school and the (in)existence of gender-inclusive policies in Brazilian legislation were investigated. The research, anchored in Queer Theory and the inductive method, allows it to extrapolate its findings to other realities and contribute to reflections on gender, power and education, in addition to reflecting on strategies for the inclusion and permanence of trans and transvestite people.
