Abstract
With recent advances in additive manufacturing, the process of building an object through the
deposition of a certain material layer by layer, several studies on materials and methods have
been carried out in recent decades. Additive manufacturing grows exponentially and in recent
years the analysis of factors and their effects has been gaining ground given the specificity of
each project or study where it is necessary. In order to understand the effect that layer height,
printing speed, table temperature and extruder nozzle temperature of the Ender 3 printer have
on printing time, printed part mass and electrical energy consumption, a 24-1
fractional factorial
design for each response to be studied. The analysis of variance of the three responses is
presented together with the effects graphs that show, with statistical significance, the influence
or non-influence of the input factors on each response. It was identified that no input parameter
has any influence on the mass, that the layer height and the printing speed influence both the
printing time and the electrical energy consumption, that the interaction between layer height
and printing speed also influences the printing time, that the table temperature and the
interaction between it and the layer height influence the electric energy consumption. A
mathematical model is presented for determining the printing time and another for the
consumption of electrical energy.
