comercializam alimentos in natura.
A análise
Abstract
Introduction: Food deserts are regions where a portion of the population has limited access to
healthy foods. With the concentration of the black population in peripheral regions, it is possible
that these people have less access to establishments that sell fresh foods. Objective: The
objective of this study is to carry out a spatial analysis of the concentration of establishments
that sell fresh food (vegetable gardens, grocery stores and open-air markets) and the
concentration of black people in different neighborhoods in the city of Uberlândia - MG.
Methods: To carry out the spatial analysis of the distribution of establishments (grocery stores,
vegetable gardens and street markets) in the city of Uberlândia, demographic data from the
2010 Census of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics – IBGE, referring to race
and our sectors, were obtained. census records from the Municipality of Uberlândia; the list of
urban gardens, open-air markets and grocery stores in the city, with their identification and
location. Spatial analysis was carried out using heat maps, using QGIS software. Results: The
concentration of vegetable gardens, grocery stores and open-air markets is in the central regions
of the city, where the majority of the white population is concentrated. The peripheral regions
of the city have a lower concentration of these establishments and a higher concentration of the
black population. Conclusion: The study indicates the formation of food deserts in the
municipality of Uberlândia, with a smaller concentration of open-air markets, vegetable gardens
and grocery stores in regions where there is a greater concentration of the black population
