Abstract

Propulsion is one of the aeronautical sectors that seeks to maximize aircraft performance, aiming for greater range, lower costs and greater power. Following this line, this work has the objective of computationally evaluating the flow in the exhaust section of the turboprop engine (turbo-propeller) PT6A-34. For this, three different configurations were made for the nozzle and exhaust pipe, the first one with a constant section pipe, the second with a multi-section pipe (tapered) and the third with the inner part of the exhaust hub modified. The simulations using CFD were performed with the software developed in the Laboratory of Fluid Mechanics of the Federal University of Uberlândia, Fluids3D and the analysis of the results was done with ParaView software. The results of velocity and vorticity obtained lead to the conclusion that the internal design of the PT6A-34 motor hub has the necessary configuration for better contribution of the exhaust gases in the propulsion. Regarding the configuration of the tubes, the profile with multi-sections may lead to greater contributions to propulsion, but a more in-depth study should be carried out to ascertain the advantages and/or disadvantages of this configuration.
