Resumo
A busca por vida fora da terra, a Astrobiologia, é um campo de estudos extremamente complexo, isso por conta da multiplicidade de processos naturais que permeiam os seres vivos. O acesso à internet, juntamente com a criação de redes sociais que adotavam uma interface mais amigável aos seus usuários, como o Reddit, aumentou a desconfiança de fontes de informação baseadas em investigação metódica, e em relação às informações compartilhadas através das mídias clássicas, como os jornais. Este estudo visou identificar quaisquer diferenças na aceitação à achados científicos entre as diversas áreas temáticas que constituem a Astrobiologia. Para o levantamento de dados sobre Astrobiologia na rede social Reddit foi selecionado o fórum denominado “Astrobiology: The study of life in the universe” e foram elaboradas cinco categorias, com o propósito de classificar as postagens analisadas. Por fim, para analisar o engajamento à certa temática foi empregado uma investigação de tendências para verificar se existiam fatores que afetaram a produção científica em certa área temática ou o aumento de interesse pelo tema que motivou seu compartilhamento no fórum. Durante o isolamento social, decorrente do cenário pandêmico causado pela CoViD-19, o aumento do interesse pela astrobiologia se tornou expressivo no fórum analisado. Os participantes demonstraram alta capacidade de pensamento crítico e elevados níveis de alfabetização científica, fato que demonstra o papel de relevância da divulgação científica, exercido pelo crowdsourcing, nesta comunidade.
Abstract
The search of life outside of the Planet Earth, the Astrobiology, is a field of study that is extremely complex, because of the diversity of natural processes that permeate living beings. The internet access, along with the establishment of new social media platforms that adopt a user-friendly interface, like the Reddit, increased the mistrust around sources of methodical investigation, about information shared through traditional media, like newspapers. This study aims to examine any differences of acceptance between scientific findings of different areas that compose Astrobiology. To collect the data concerning Astrobiology in social media selected the forum called “Astrobiology: The study of life in the universe” and five themes were created to classify the analyzed posts. Lastly, to analyze the existence of any factor that may result in more engagement to a specific theme, were applied an investigation of tendences, to verify which factors affected the scientific production in certain thematic areas or the increasing of interest around that theme that motivated the sharing on the forum. During the social isolation, due the pandemic scenario caused by to CoViD-19, the interest in Astrobiology became expressive in the analyzed forum. The members have shown a high capacity for critical thought and high levels of scientific literacy, which demonstrates the relevant role of scientific dissemination, done by the crowdsource in this community.
