Resumo
Diante do rápido crescimento econômico da China durante as últimas décadas, o que
a tornou um país com alta demanda por commodities e com alta participação na
exportação de produtos tecnológicos, o presente trabalho visa entender como a
relação comercial entre a China e os Estados Unidos tem se comportado,
principalmente diante da ascensão econômica chinesa, atualmente a segunda maior
economia do mundo – com potencial de rivalizar com a maior potência econômica
atual, os Estados Unidos. Dessa maneira, o objetivo é analisar, interpretar e identificar
o padrão e a evolução das relações de comércio bilateral das duas maiores economias
do mundo atual dentre o período de 2010 a 2019. Para tanto, a metodologia para a
análise dos dados inclui a classificação da Taxonomia de Lall, bem como a utilização
do índice de market-share, o índice de Vantagens Comparativas Reveladas e o índice
de Comércio Intra-industrial. A pesquisa identifica, por fim, que o comércio bilateral
entre as potências possui um caráter complementar e interindustrial – com a China
exportando principalmente manufaturas de baixa, média e alta tecnologia para os EUA
e importando deste principalmente produtos primários e manufaturas de média
tecnologia.
Abstract
Given the rapid economic growth of China during the last decades, which has made it
a country with high demand for commodities and with a high share in the export of
technological products, the present work aims to understand how the trade relationship
between China and the United States has behaved, especially in the face of the
Chinese economic rise, currently the second largest economy in the world – with the
potential to rival the current biggest economic power, the United States. In this way,
the objective is to analyze, interpret and identify the pattern and evolution of bilateral
trade relations of the two largest economies in the world today from 2010 to 2019. To
this end, the methodology for data analysis includes the classification of Lall's
taxonomy, as well as the use of the market-share index, the Revealed Comparative
Advantage index and the Intra-Industry Trade index. Finally, it identifies that bilateral
research between the powers has a complementary and inter-industry character – with
China mainly exporting low, medium and high technology to the USA and mainly
importing from this mainly primary products and medium technology.
