Abstract: In recent decades, discussions about sustainability and efficient use of natural resources have intensified in the design of the Built Environment, especially given the environmental impacts associated with the life cycle of buildings. In this context, the potential of using wood in combination with other materials, such as steel, in the composition of mixed vertical fencing systems stands out. This combination allows for greater construction versatility, ease of maintenance and disassembly, reuse of components, and the application of wood in different
techniques — in its solid or industrialized form — expanding its suitability for different production contexts. This study aimed to analyze different techniques for vertical fencing systems in steel and wood developed by Jean Prouvé, identifying the key aspects that make these construction solutions applicable in the current context. This study is both theoretically and technically relevant, contributing to the deepening of research on mixed construction systems, still little discussed in the literature, and discussing possible paths for developing more rational and sustainable solutions in architecture. The methodology adopted involved bibliographic and documentary research, redesign and three-dimensional modeling of the selected works, and constructive experimentation using scale models created with the aid of 3D printing of components. This approach allowed us to understand the assembly logic, the relationships between materials, and the structural and formal behavior of the systems, enabling an integrated analysis of their technical, environmental, and socioeconomic dimensions. The results demonstrate that Prouvé's construction principles, based on rationalization, modularity, and disassembly, remain fully relevant when reinterpreted in light of currently available technologies and materials. The conclusion is that mixed steel and wood systems represent viable, sustainable, and adaptable construction solutions capable of reconciling technological innovation, material efficiency, and environmental responsibility,
reaffirming the relevance of Jean Prouvé's legacy in the face of the challenges of 21st-century construction.

Abstract: The present work is based on the understanding that architecture and urbanism (AU) education has had a trajectory marked by Eurocentrism, an effect of the colonial process, often obliterating traditional Afro-Indigenous and popular knowledge and other modes of production of built space. However, it is observed that contemporary experiences have moved toward a redirection toward valuing this knowledge as fundamental to a more critical and pluralistic education. Thus, we seek to establish a sample of how traditional knowledge has been approached in contemporary AU education. To this end, we draw on the theoretical foundation of decolonial thought to understand the specificities of Latin America and conduct a historical-critical review of AU education, reiterating its history of erasing this knowledge. We then analyze the Pedagogical Course Projects of three case studies and subsequently report on experiences developed within these courses in partnership with traditional Afro-Indigenous communities.

Title: Cidades sem memória?
Abstract: Although the 1988 Federal Constitution established a broad and democratic understanding of
cultural heritage, preservation practices in Brazil often persist in maintaining a restrictive view of what
should be recognized as cultural assets. There remains a widespread notion that heritage is limited
to monumental buildings, works signed by great artists, or creations from distant historical periods.
This conception, which runs counter to the constitutional text’s inclusive perspective on preservation,
excludes the vast majority of Brazilian cities—particularly the small and recently founded ones.
This master’s dissertation, developed within the Graduate Program in Architecture and Urbanism at
the Federal University of Uberlândia (PPGAU-UFU), seeks to deconstruct the limiting notion of
cultural heritage as restricted solely to monumental assets and, consequently, to traditional
preservation instruments. It does so through a discussion on cultural heritage in small, recently
established cities of the northwestern region of São Paulo State, focusing on the municipalities of
Bebedouro and Colina. In parallel, the research aims to propose possible paths for fostering heritage
awareness in these localities, supporting the development of public preservation policies integrated
with local and regional urban development. Drawing on the theoretical contributions of authors such
as Gatti and Zandonade (2017), Endlich and Detoni (2022), Campos and Inoue (2020), Meneses
(2012), Motta (2023), Chuva (2017), Rocha (2020), Meira (2004), and Schicchi (2022), among
others, this work seeks to promote a critical and expanded understanding of the concept of cultural
heritage. By addressing the relationship between heritage and small, recently founded cities in
northwestern São Paulo, and through the case studies of Bebedouro and Colina, the dissertation
aims to reflect on how the municipalities of this region can embrace cultural heritage not only as a
means of safeguarding it amid the city’s ongoing transformations, but also as a way to preserve and
reinterpret their urban identity over time and across generations. In doing so, it aspires to contribute
to improved quality of life, greater social identification and appropriation of space, and the
construction of an intermunicipal approach to cultural heritage preservation.
