Title: Análise morfológica do córtex motor e do giro denteado em animais hiperlipidêmicos e tratados com Maytenus ilicifolia
Abstract: Hyperlipidemia is a metabolic disorder characterized by elevated circulating lipid levels and is associated with systemic inflammation, oxidative stress, and the development of structural alterations in the central nervous system. In this context, natural compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, such as Maytenus ilicifolia (espinheira-santa), have attracted interest due to their potential neuroprotective effects. The present study aimed to investigate morphometric differences in the motor cortex and dentate gyrus of the hippocampus in normolipidemic, hyperlipidemic, and hyperlipidemic mice treated with an oral gavage of the ethanolic extract of Maytenus ilicifolia to verify if there would be differences in these regions that could be related to neural diseases. Sixteen C57BL/6 mice were divided into four experimental groups: normolipidemic, hyperlipidemic, hyperlipidemic treated with 100 and 400 mg/kg of the extract. Hyperlipidemia was induced with Tyloxapol for 21 days. After euthanasia, the brains were collected and processed for histological analysis using Nissl staining. The morphological analyses included measurements of motor cortex thickness, dentate gyrus layer thickness, neuronal area and density, performed using ImageJ software. The results demonstrated a significant reduction in cortical thickness in hyperlipidemic animals compared with normolipidemic animals, without changes in cortical neuronal density. In the dentate gyrus, animals treated with 100 mg/kg of Maytenus ilicifolia showed greater thickness of the granular layer, as well as a tendency toward preservation of the molecular layer compared with untreated hyperlipidemic animals. These findings suggest that hyperlipidemia promotes morphometric alterations in the brain and that Maytenus ilicifolia exhibits potential neuroprotective effects.

Harmonização da imagem facial: uma análise crítica da proporção áurea no visagismo e na maquiagem

Title: Harmonização da imagem facial: uma análise crítica da proporção áurea no visagismo e na maquiagem
Abstract: The pursuit of facial harmony has been studied across different fields of knowledge, involving mathematical, aesthetic and artistic concepts. Among the models used to interpret facial harmony, the golden ratio stands out as a mathematical relationship historically associated with the perception of balance and beauty and later incorporated into the analysis of human body proportions. However, its validity as a universal parameter of facial attractiveness remains controversial. In the field of facial aesthetics, the analysis of facial proportions allows an understanding of the relationships between facial structures and their influence on the perception of harmony and symmetry. In parallel, visagism emerges as an approach aimed at constructing personal image based on the analysis of the individual's physical characteristics and identity. In this context, make-up may be used as a tool capable of visually modifying facial proportions through techniques of light, shadow and shape correction. This study aimed to critically analyse the validity of the golden ratio as a parameter of facial harmony, considering its relationship with anthropometry, beauty perception, visagism and the use of make-up as a resource for visual modulation of the facial image. An integrative literature review with a qualitative and descriptive approach was carried out, based on studies addressing the relationship between facial proportions, image construction and make-up techniques applied to facial aesthetics. The evidence analysed indicates that, although anthropometric and morphometric parameters are useful for the objective assessment of the face, the golden ratio lacks consistent scientific support as a universal standard of beauty. The perception of facial harmony is multifactorial and influenced by morphological, population, cultural and individual characteristics. Visagism and make-up may therefore contribute to the harmonisation of the facial image when applied individually, valuing each person's own features rather than rigidly applying universal mathematical models.

Title: Resposta imune humoral ao extrato da semente de girassol (Helianthus annuus) em indivíduos atópicos e não atópicos: um estudo piloto
Abstract: Allergic diseases constitute a significant public health problem, significantly impacting the
quality of life of a considerable portion of the global population. These diseases are
characterized by immediate hypersensitivity reactions following exposure to allergens, whether
mediated or not by IgE, with the presence of this immunoglobulin being the defining
characteristic of atopy. In the context of allergy, the participation of other antibodies, including
IgA and IgG, remains poorly understood. Plant-derived allergens commonly originate from
pollen, cereals, and seeds. In this context, sunflower (Helianthus annuus) allergy remains
poorly described in Brazil, highlighting the need for investigations into the immunopathology
triggered by this allergen. This study aimed to detect and quantify specific IgE, IgA, and total
IgG antibodies against crude H. annuus extract. Following approval by the Research Ethics
Committee of the Federal University of Uberlândia (CEP/UFU), 78 participants (38 atopic and
40 non-atopic) were recruited at the Hospital de Clínicas-UFU through a direct approach. Blood
samples were collected from the participants, processed, separated, and stored. The crude H.
annuus extract was obtained by cryomaceration, with protein content determined by the
Bradford method and electrophoretic profile analyzed by SDS-PAGE. The quantification of
specific serum IgE, IgA, and total IgG antibodies against the H. annuus extract was performed
using ELISA, with statistical significance set at p < 0.05. Polypeptide bands ranging from 10
to 250 kDa were observed, with a protein concentration of 13 mg/mL. Comparative analysis
revealed a significant difference (p < 0.0001; H = 109.3) among the immunoglobulin classes,
with a predominance of IgG reactivity (median 0.6470) compared with the other isotypes. The
concentrations of IgE and IgA showed no significant difference (p = 0.2117) and shared the
same optical density distribution profile. Furthermore, a moderate positive correlation was
observed between serum IgE and IgA levels (rs = 0.489; p = 0.0208), whereas IgG was
independent of the other variables. These findings suggest a possible involvement of IgA in the
IgE-mediated allergic response in atopic individuals, indicating that IgA may exert a
modulatory role in allergic reactions to H. annuus antigens. Additional investigations are
necessary to elucidate the immunological mechanisms underlying this association.

Abstract: Cancer represents a major public health concern and is frequently associated with
hematological alterations resulting from both the disease itself and the therapies employed. In
this context, transfusion support and the evaluation of laboratory parameters play a central role
in the clinical management of these patients. This study aimed to characterize the clinical,
laboratory, and transfusional profile of outpatient cancer patients treated at a public hospital in
Brazil. This was a retrospective observational study including 389 patients treated between
January 2020 and December 2022. The population had a median age of 62 years, with a slight
predominance of females (53%). Solid tumors accounted for 52.9% of cases, followed by
lymphoid (31.4%) and myeloid neoplasms (15.4%). During the study period, a total of 677
units of blood components were transfused, predominantly red blood cells concentrates
(81.4%), with a median of two units per patient. Anemia was the main indication for transfusion
(74.1%). Laboratory evaluation revealed consistent hematological abnormalities, including
increased red cell distribution width (RDW), suggesting significant erythrocyte morphological
heterogeneity. Additionally, elevated neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-
lymphocyte ratio (PLR) indicated the presence of systemic inflammation. In the transfusional
analysis, patients with solid tumors showed a higher intensity of red blood cell transfusion,
whereas those with hematological neoplasms exhibited a higher frequency of platelet
transfusion. Notably, platelet transfusion intensity was higher in patients with solid tumors,
while among hematological neoplasms, the lymphoid subgroup demonstrated a greater relative
demand for this component. Irregular antibody positivity was identified in 4.1% of patients,
with a predominance of alloantibodies from the Rh and Kell systems. The occurrence of
transfusion reactions was low, with three events reported. In conclusion, outpatient cancer
patients present a high transfusional demand, with distinct patterns according to the type of
neoplasm, as well as laboratory findings consistent with systemic inflammation and
erythropoietic dysregulation. These findings highlight the importance of individualized
transfusion strategies and contribute to improving clinical care in this population.
