    <description>Title: Divergências em traduções de Machado de Assis para o inglês: A Singular Occurrence e A Strange Thing
Abstract: This research proposes a comparison of two translations into English of the Brazilian short story “Singular ocorrência” (1883), by Machado de Assis: the version published in A Devil’s Church and Other Stories (1977), organized and translated by Jack Schmitt, named A Strange Thing, and the one published in A Chapter of Hats and Other Stories (2008), by John Gledson, named A Singular Occurrence. As a basis for identifying trends in both translations, the research utilizes the deforming tendencies postulated by Antoine Berman in La traduction et la lettre ou l’auberge du lointain (1991), aiming to observe how avoidable those deformations are and what they mean to this work of fiction and to literature as a whole. Through comparative and classificatory analysis, we identified passages that paint a pretty good picture of examples of deformations and the variety of decisions between the two translators, and we managed to obtain interesting conclusions about the influence held within a translator’s choices.</description>

Abstract: This study aims to investigate the intersemiotic translation process involved in adapting the &#xD;
game *The Last of Us Part II* (Naughty Dog, 2020) to the television series *The Last of Us* &#xD;
(HBO, 2023–), focusing on the scene of Joel's death and on the reconstruction of the character &#xD;
Abby. Grounded in the concepts of agency (Ryan, 2001), ludonarrative (Hocking, 2007), and &#xD;
adaptation as recreation (Hutcheon, 2013), the research adopts an interpretative comparative &#xD;
analysis of editing, sound design, framing and acting. The analysis demonstrates that the series &#xD;
does not attempt literal replication of the game but seeks to recreate the equivalence of the &#xD;
original’s core emotional effects — such as powerlessness, grief and moral complexity — &#xD;
shifting from the game’s motor agency toward audiovisual and performative strategies on &#xD;
screen. The conclusion is that the success of the adaptation lies in its ability to recreate affective &#xD;
effects &#xD;
in &#xD;
another &#xD;
medium, thus constituting an autonomous creative work.</description>

Abstract: This research aims to analyze the field of automatic dubbing within Audiovisual Translation (AVT), driven by advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI), in order to evaluate some of the main free tools available on online platforms and discuss the challenges of this process. Through an exploratory study, it was possible to identify the main features and technological flaws of online tools, concerning the AI dubbing process for the English-Portuguese language pair. The analysis highlights recurrent inconsistencies in voice cloning, lip-syncing, and translation errors. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance and role of human intervention in correcting the limitations of currently available automated systems, which is seen as essential to ensure the final quality of translated audiovisual products.</description>

Abstract: This study analyzes the translation of Brazilian Portuguese subtitles into&#xD;
American English in the reality show Drag Race Brasil, focusing on expressions&#xD;
characteristic of Brazilian queer language. It examines how these expressions are&#xD;
conveyed in the target language, considering linguistic, cultural, and identity-related&#xD;
aspects. The theoretical framework is based on Gottlieb’s (1994) subtitling strategies,&#xD;
and Robinson’s (2020) definition of translation. The methodology involved analyzing&#xD;
the first episode of the show’s first season, identifying queer expressions and&#xD;
comparing the Portuguese and English subtitles. Results show that most translations&#xD;
relied on paraphrasing with a tendency toward domestication, favoring fluency and&#xD;
comprehension for international audiences but sometimes reducing cultural and&#xD;
identity-specific nuances. Expressions translated through transfer or imitation&#xD;
preserved greater cultural and performative fidelity. The study highlights the&#xD;
translator’s role as a cultural mediator and provides alternative translation suggestions&#xD;
that balance contributing to audiovisual translation studies and the visibility of&#xD;
LGBTQIA+ cultural practices.</description>
