Qualidade de vida no trabalho de profissionais que assistem crianças e adolescentes em situação de violência (Minas Gerais)

Title: Qualidade de vida no trabalho de profissionais que assistem crianças e adolescentes em situação de violência (Minas Gerais)
Abstract: Violence against children and adolescents constitutes a serious public health problem and requires integrated action from social protection networks and health services. Within the context of the Brazilian Unified Health System, Primary Health Care plays a fundamental role in the identification, notification, and monitoring of these situations. However, assisting victims of violence exposes professionals to institutional, emotional, and organizational challenges that can impact their Quality of Life at Work. In this scenario, it becomes relevant to understand how working conditions and the organization of services influence the experience of these professionals. The objectives of this research are to offer a comprehensive, critical, and applied perspective to strengthen public policies and care practices within the Unified Health System and to understand the factors associated with Quality of Life at Work constructed by Primary Health Care professionals regarding the care of victims of child and adolescent violence. This Dissertation Equivalent Work integrates the production of a book chapter and an empirical article, developed within the scope of a research project on child and adolescent violence in the Health Care Network of Uberlândia, Minas Gerais. The book chapter presents a theoretical discussion on the evolution of the concept of health, the social determinants of health, worker health, and the theoretical frameworks of Quality of Life at Work, articulating these dimensions to the context of work in health and assistance in situations of violence. The empirical article consists of a mixed-methods, descriptive-exploratory study conducted with 36 primary health care professionals. Data collection was carried out using the Total Quality of Life at Work instrument and three open-ended questions. Quantitative data were analyzed using Jamovi software, and qualitative data were examined through thematic content analysis and Descending Hierarchical Classification with the support of IRaMuTeQ software. The results indicated an overall average Quality of Life at Work score of 64.38, classified as overwhelming. The psychological and behavioral sphere showed a more positive evaluation, while the economic and political sphere revealed greater dissatisfaction among the participants. The narratives revealed that attending to cases of child and adolescent violence mobilizes feelings such as indignation, helplessness, and emotional suffering. Furthermore, institutional challenges related to communication between services, the articulation of the protection network, and the organization of work were identified. Among the strategies suggested by professionals, the expansion of institutional support, the provision of specific training, and the strengthening of multidisciplinary action stand out. It is concluded that assisting cases of child violence in Primary Health Care involves emotional and institutional challenges that influence the work experience of professionals. Strengthening organizational conditions, qualifying teams, and improving integration between services in the protection network are fundamental to promoting Quality of Life at Work and ensuring more effective assistance to victims. The results reinforce the importance of institutional policies external to worker health and the improvement of care practices in the Unified Health System.

Title: Descartes de resíduos hospitalares e consequências para saúde ambiental durante a pandemia COVID-19: revisão sistemática
Abstract: INTRODUCTION. Healthcare Waste (HCW) is defined, according to Brazilian regulations, as waste generated from activities carried out by healthcare service providers, whose management is primarily regulated by ANVISA Resolution RDC No. 222/2018. During the COVID-19 pandemic, caused by SARS-CoV-2, a biological agent classified as Risk Group 3, a significant increase was observed in the generation of hospital and household waste, as well as greater occupational exposure among urban cleaning workers and recyclable material collectors. OBJECTIVE. To investigate the importance of proper hospital solid waste management during the COVID-19 pandemic, describing the management and disposal practices adopted during this period, as well as identifying the main environmental consequences and impacts resulting from the inadequate handling of such waste. METHODOLOGY. This study consists of a systematic literature review conducted according to the PRISMA guidelines and based on the PICo strategy (Population, Phenomenon of Interest, and Context). RESULTS. The search conducted in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) identified 37 studies, of which 28 were excluded for not meeting the eligibility criteria, resulting in the final inclusion of 9 articles published between 2019 and 2024. The findings revealed a significant increase in waste generation, weaknesses in waste handling and segregation practices, and a high level of vulnerability among exposed workers due to insufficient information, unequal access to personal protective equipment, and the spread of misinformation regarding prevention measures and vaccination. CONCLUSION. It was concluded that the pandemic intensified pre-existing challenges in healthcare waste management and highlighted the need to strengthen public policies, professional training, and adequate infrastructure to reduce environmental and public health risks.

Title: As repercussões emocionais em trabalhadores de enfermagem de Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal
Abstract: Introduction: The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a highly complex care environment, intended for the care of newborns in critical clinical conditions. The work of nursing professionals in these units is associated with emotional exhaustion, related to high workload, emotional pressure and insufficient institutional support. Objective: To develop two complementary studies, an integrative literature review and research on the articulation between emotional experiences, interpersonal relationships and health of nursing professionals in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Methodology: This is a bibliographic and field study structured in the format of a dissertation composed of two interdependent scientific articles. The first article consisted of an integrative literature review, of a descriptive-exploratory nature, carried out through an integrated search in databases, aiming to identify scientific evidence on factors associated with mental illness among nursing professionals in Neonatal Intensive Care Units. The second article corresponded to field research, also descriptive-exploratory, conducted with 30 nursing professionals from a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of a federal university hospital. Data collection occurred through semi-structured interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, and qualitative data by lexical analysis, with the aid of the IRAMUTEQ software, used for statistical analysis of textual data, and thematic content analysis. Results: The results indicate that interpersonal relationships play a central role in mediating these processes, acting both as a protective factor that helps individuals cope with the adversities of daily work life and as a risk factor for emotional health that tends to intensify psychological distress.

Atenção primária à saúde e a violência infantojuvenil: desafios e estratégias dos profissionais de saúde

Title: Atenção primária à saúde e a violência infantojuvenil: desafios e estratégias dos profissionais de saúde
Abstract: Violence against children and adolescents is a serious public health problem with a massive social impact. Primary Health Care (PHC) serves as a strategic setting for addressing these issues, and its presence in the community enables health professionals to build relationships with families and identify cases of violence early on. The objective of this research was to analyze the role of Primary Health Care professionals in assisting children and adolescents in situations of violence, through the systematization of scientific knowledge and the investigation of the challenges of care and their implications for the health and work of these professionals. This research constitutes a dissertation-equivalent study, structured into two academic outputs: a book chapter and an empirical scientific article. This paper presents Chapter 3 of the book, titled “Psychological Effects of Working with Victims of Child and Adolescent Violence,” which was an integrative literature review conducted by searching for studies published between 2020 and 2025 in the PubMed, BVS, CAPES, and SciELo databases. Five manuscripts were analyzed, which allowed for the construction of three categories: Psychological impacts and traumatic distress among professionals; Lack of training and institutional support; and Coping and self-protection strategies. The second output was a scientific article titled “Child and Adolescent Violence in Primary Health Care: Challenges and Implications for Workers’ Health,” a mixed-methods study conducted with 36 primary health care professionals using an online questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, thematic content analysis, and lexical analysis with the IRaMuTeQ software. The results showed that caring for victims of child and adolescent violence exposes professionals to ethical dilemmas, external pressures, and insecurities, requiring institutional support. They also revealed vulnerabilities in the organization of care, with fragile workflows and protocols. The integration of these two approaches allowed for the synthesis of evidence from the scientific literature and empirical findings derived from the reality of service delivery, enabling a broader understanding of the challenges of caring for children and adolescents in situations of violence and their implications for the health and work of the professionals involved.
