Title: Desenho e construção: memorial para Professor Titular, 2001-2026 Abstract: This memoir presents my teaching career at the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU). It covers a period from 2001 to 2026. Through this memoir, I describe and analyze a significant portion of the teaching activities I have developed over almost 25 years at UFU. These teaching activities are grouped into four areas of action: teaching, research, outreach, and management. As an introduction and contextualization, prior to the main text, I present the path that led me to choose architecture and design as my field of study and, later, as my professional field as a university professor. The conclusion presents part of the understanding I have built, throughout my teaching career, about what design and architecture are and what they can be, and about a path to teach them. The purpose of this report is to fulfill part of the requirements for promotion from Associate Professor IV to Full Professor in the Higher Education Teaching Career, in accordance with MEC Ordinance No. 982, of October 3, 2013, regulated by Resolution No. 3/2017 of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Uberlândia, of June 9, 2017. Its preparation followed the guidelines in Annex 5, Guidelines for Report Preparation, of Resolution No. 03/2017 of the Governing Council, of June 9, 2017.

Title: Biofilia e psicologia ambiental na elaboração do espaço arquitetônico Abstract: This study investigates the application of biophilic principles and environmental psychology in the architectural design process, aiming to understand their contribution to the qualification of built spaces and to the promotion of spatial experiences attentive to individuals’ internal demands. Initially, conceptual surveys are conducted regarding the influence of the built environment on human behavior, environmental perception, and the intrinsic need for connection with nature, as advocated by biophilia. Subsequently, an analysis of reference architectural projects is developed through a design matrix, which supports the elaboration of a set of design guidelines —the main outcome of this study — comprising strategies and solutions applicable to architectural design. Finally, an experimental residential village project is presented to test the application of the defended concepts, considering different contexts of site implementation, spatial relationships, and typological variations. The study ultimately argues for the conscious incorporation of the natural environment, the built environment, and the human being as a fundamental triad for the development of high-quality architectural spaces capable of promoting well-being, a sense of belonging, and reconnection with nature.

Title: Cidades sem memória? Ausência de políticas de preservação nas pequenas cidades de formação recente no Noroeste Paulista Abstract: Although the 1988 Federal Constitution established a broad and democratic understanding of cultural heritage, preservation practices in Brazil often persist in maintaining a restrictive view of what should be recognized as cultural assets. There remains a widespread notion that heritage is limited to monumental buildings, works signed by great artists, or creations from distant historical periods. This conception, which runs counter to the constitutional text’s inclusive perspective on preservation, excludes the vast majority of Brazilian cities—particularly the small and recently founded ones. This master’s dissertation, developed within the Graduate Program in Architecture and Urbanism at the Federal University of Uberlândia (PPGAU-UFU), seeks to deconstruct the limiting notion of cultural heritage as restricted solely to monumental assets and, consequently, to traditional preservation instruments. It does so through a discussion on cultural heritage in small, recently established cities of the northwestern region of São Paulo State, focusing on the municipalities of Bebedouro and Colina. In parallel, the research aims to propose possible paths for fostering heritage awareness in these localities, supporting the development of public preservation policies integrated with local and regional urban development. Drawing on the theoretical contributions of authors such as Gatti and Zandonade (2017), Endlich and Detoni (2022), Campos and Inoue (2020), Meneses (2012), Motta (2023), Chuva (2017), Rocha (2020), Meira (2004), and Schicchi (2022), among others, this work seeks to promote a critical and expanded understanding of the concept of cultural heritage. By addressing the relationship between heritage and small, recently founded cities in northwestern São Paulo, and through the case studies of Bebedouro and Colina, the dissertation aims to reflect on how the municipalities of this region can embrace cultural heritage not only as a means of safeguarding it amid the city’s ongoing transformations, but also as a way to preserve and reinterpret their urban identity over time and across generations. In doing so, it aspires to contribute to improved quality of life, greater social identification and appropriation of space, and the construction of an intermunicipal approach to cultural heritage preservation.
