Title: Memorial apresentado à Faculdade de Engenharia Mecânica – FEMEC da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia – UFU como parte dos requisitos para promoção de professor associado 4 para professor titular na carreira de Magistério Superior
Abstract: The descriptive report of Professor Dr. José Jean Paul Zanlucchi de Souza Tavares presents a history of activities that combine academic and practical issues. This is evident since before the professor joined FEMEC, when he experimented with different ways of discovering how to integrate academia with business. Upon assuming teaching activities, the report describes the various initiatives in the area of teaching and research, which obtained satisfactory results from the beginning through the approval of a Fapemig project financing the continuation of the research he developed during his doctorate and postdoctorate. Initially, a teaching and research laboratory was created, the Manufacturing Automated Planning Lab (MAPL), which, together with its work in postgraduate studies, supported and conferred the titles of six masters and three doctors and the publication of several articles both in journals and at conferences, although with results below expectations. In addition, the professor worked hard to create a new FEMEC center together with other peers, the Automation and Systems Center, and took on the Center's Coordination for the first two two-year periods. At another time in the future, he will resume this Coordination for two years.

After the initial years, the research activities undergo adaptation with the students, who are more familiar with practical activities than theoretical ones, and this changes the approach used so that the best results can be obtained from the students; however, this does not prevent the professor from withdrawing from the postgraduate program in 2021.

The new way of working emphasizes the application of research carried out in real problems, in particular, the doctoral thesis of one of the students who is studying a rescue support system for trails and crossings at ICMBio Serra do Cipó. In addition, there is support for the creation of a “do-it-yourself” laboratory called FEMEC Maker with the aim of having a more democratic place for the production of prototypes and devices.
The research continues to develop through scientific initiations and final course work, and the published articles present more practical results than the initial works.

On two occasions, a line of funding was obtained through a parliamentary amendment from the Chamber of Deputies for two extension projects focused on expanding the FEMEC Maker Laboratory. As a result of these two extension projects, three work fronts are beginning to yield scientific results, namely, the 3D printer project, the development of a didactic robot for teaching and research activities, and systems integrated with Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices. Several articles from these fronts have already been published and well received.

Through the partnership with ICMBio, an extension program called CTParNa – Technology Center for National Parks – was formalized, with five initiatives over 5 years. The main focus of these initiatives is technology as a vector for social development. The first initiative has also been formalized through the extension project of an application for trails and crossings and is under development. There is currently an effort to seek funding for these initiatives. Teaching activities are integrated with all this movement in research and extension, integrating industrial automation, industrial networks, systems simulation, instrumentation, control and IIoT. A concrete result is the provision of the discipline FEMEC42502 – Special Topics in Mechatronic Engineering with emphasis on Industrial Internet of Things.
Based on this report, it is believed that the professor meets all the qualitative and quantitative conditions necessary for access to the Full Professor class in accordance with Resolution No. 03/2017 of the Board of Directors – CONDIR – of the Federal University of Uberlândia – UFU.
