Abstract: This work aimed to investigate the technical-musical elements that constitute the compositional
style of Toninho Horta and Fernando Brant, which can be identified in the seven songs created
by the duo and recorded between 1969 and 1980. To this end, in addition to recordings, the
scores contained in Toninho Horta’s 108 Partituras Songbook were used as references, since
these versions were reviewed by the composer himself. The analytical descriptions were based
on the identification and discussion of elements such as harmonic progressions, motives,
phrases, rhythmic patterns, melodic patterns, and the relationship between music and lyrics.
The study also sought to establish relationships between the poetics involved in the works and
the historical-musical context corresponding to the period of their production. This study
demonstrates that the duo articulated musical elements associated with Bossa Nova, Clube da
Esquina, and pop music with lyrics that incorporate references to everyday life, personal
memories, geographical displacements, and political events related to the historical context of
their production, thereby arriving at an identity.

Abstract: The aim of this study is to understand how musical learning takes place during a collaborative composition of songs for a musical theater by elementary school children in a school setting. The research framework is underpinned by pedagogical principles (HERNANDES, 1998; PRADO, 2005; BENDER, 2014; GUEDES et al., 2017), creative learning (CRAFT; JEFFREY; LEIBLING, 2001; ALENCAR, 2007; LUBART, 2007; MITJÁNS MARTINES, 2014; RESNICK, 2020) and the composition process (BERKLEY, 2001; FAUTLEY, 2004). The methodology which was employed consists of qualitative research and data collection was carried out by means of videos, photographs and interviews with pupils (CHRISTENSEN; JAMES, 2017). The findings highlighted the capacity the children had to articulate song lyrics, improvise melodies and rhythms and understand the structure of music. In addition, they were able to learn about key psycho-social factors and group skills which are essential for human development and acquiring a more suitable grown-up lifestyle.

Abstract: This work aims to understand listeners' music listening relationships on Spotify space, in order to analyze its constitution and functioning as a digital space for music listening, to explore the listeners' connections with the streaming service, to understand the organization and transformation of listening practices, and to reveal the relationships established by listeners with their own listening within this space. The dissertation presents a series of quantitative and qualitative analyses, derived from responses to a questionnaire prepared during the research and administered to a group of 111 Spotify users. The study incorporates critical theoretical approaches from several classic authors, with notable reference to Theodor W. Adorno (1985, 2017, 2020) and Walter Benjamin (2012), and contemporary authors, such as Robert Prey (2015, 2020) and Jack Webster (2022), regarding debates on music listening, technology and society. The research findings highlight the emergence of diverse listening relationships that shape listening practices, habits, conceptions, and experiences on Spotify. Transformations are detected in the musical preferences, listening modes, temporality and spatiality of listeners' musical listening after using the streaming service. Additionally, gender, race, and generational factors emerge as influential elements in the constitution of listening practices within an algorithmic environment.

Abstract: This research presents the analyses of the kirtans Sita Ram and Samadhi Sita Ram, from Krishna Das’ album Live on Earth: For a Limited Time Only, for the creation of the kirtan Jaya Sita Ram. For this purpose, the systemic modeling methodology was used, which enabled, on one hand, rigorous analyses of the sample and, on the other, the inclusion of the composer’s creative element to address the question: how to create a new song based on two preexisting ones? This methodology made it possible to extract the hypothetical compositional systems of each sample kirtan and to create a systemic model developed from the selection and abstraction of specific parameters. This model was then used as a starting point for musical creation. As a result, a kirtan was produced that differs in microstructure but resembles the sample only in macrostructure. This research offers one perspective on musical creation inspired by Krishna Das’s songs, which may be extended both to her extensive body of work and to that of other Western kirtaniyas.
