Abstract: This monograph analyzes the representation of women in the film Barbie (2023), directed by Greta Gerwig, with the aim of understanding how the representation of gender in cinema, by a female director, relates to the construction of the identity of “being a woman” in society. The research is based on the methodological approach of cultural analysis, which allows us to investigate how cultural practices - in this case, cinema - operate as symbolic devices in the construction of social meanings. The specific objectives include understanding the relationship between representation and identity, understanding cinema as a communicative process and exploring the dialog between gender studies and cultural studies. The result is that Gerwig (2023) proposes a critical re-reading of traditional gender roles and offers a multifaceted representation of the female experience, highlighting the tensions, contradictions and transformations that mark the construction of “being a woman” in society.

Title: Subjetividade e telejornalismo: análise das representações de identidade, gênero e raça materializados nos corpos de repórteres da TV Globo
Abstract: This monograph presents a critical analysis of the representations of identity, gender, and
race in Brazilian television journalism, focusing on the segment “G1 em um minuto” aired
by TV Globo. The research is grounded in the premise that journalists bodies on screen
are not neutral, but carry subjectivities that challenge the traditionally objective discourse
of news broadcasting. Drawing from Cultural Studies and the concept of intersectionality,
this study explores how the historical “Globo Quality Standard” has shaped journalist
performances according to Eurocentric, cisnormative, and heteronormative ideals. The
methodology combines content analysis and case study, examining episodes from 2015,
2019, and 2024. The findings show that although there has been an increase in subjective
expressions — such as the appearance of Black, LGBTQIA+ journalists and informal
attire — these representations remain mostly confined to marginal segments of the
network’s programming. The study concludes that rather than signaling genuine
inclusion, such changes may serve as symbolic strategies that sustain a system still
dominated by hegemonic bodies and identities.

Title: Mídia e cobertura de tragédias: uma análise da divulgação de notícias sobre os ataques às escolas em 2023
Abstract: This research aims to analyze how some of the main Brazilian television news programsnarrated the school attacks in 2023, considering that at the time, many education and healthexperts raised concerns about the responsibility of reporting these acts and giving notoriety to the aggressors. We analyzed the coverage carried out by Rede Globo on Jornal Nacional, Record TV on Jornal da Record, and CNN Brasil on Prime Time, on April 5, 2023. This date was chosen as it is emblematic for understanding how reference journalism has reported similar episodes, as it was the day of the attack at a daycare center in Blumenau (Santa Catarina), which resulted in the deaths of four children aged between 4 and 7 years old. The aim is to analyze to what extent and in what ways the coverage by these three networks reviewed their editorial practices to fulfill the role of informing without causing social harm, such as the so-called “contagion effect.” Furthermore, the research presents data on school attacks in Brazil and discusses other coverage of sensitive topics involving children and adolescents.
