Title: Relação entre o estilo sumô ou convencional de levantamento terra e a categoria de peso no powerlifting
Abstract: Powerlifting is a sport of relative and absolute maximum strength comprised of three movements: the squat, the bench press, and the deadlift. Among these, the deadlift contributes significantly to the total score achieved by athletes in competitions. In this context, different technical styles can be employed during the execution of the movement, the most common being the conventional deadlift and the sumo deadlift. The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between weight category and the deadlift style used by powerlifting athletes, as well as to verify the influence of anthropometric variables on this choice. This is an exploratory, descriptive, analytical, and cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 47 male athletes participating in a classic powerlifting state championship in Minas Gerais, with a minimum age of 18 years. Anthropometric variables were collected, including height, body mass, body mass index, and the lengths of the arms, forearms, thighs, legs, and trunk, as well as wingspan and other absolute and relative measures. Each athlete's best valid lift was obtained through the Brazilian Confederation of Basic Lifts (CBLB) website. Participants were grouped according to the lifting style utilized (sumo or conventional) and into three broad weight categories: light, middle, and heavy. Statistical analysis included descriptive statistics, group comparison tests, association tests between categorical variables, and correlation analysis. Results demonstrated a statistically significant association between weight category and lifting style (p = 0.046), indicating a higher utilization of the sumo style in intermediate categories and a predominance of the conventional style in heavier categories. Among the anthropometric variables evaluated, only absolute trunk length showed a significant difference between lifting styles. Furthermore, a positive relationship was observed between body mass and deadlift performance. It is concluded that weight category influences the choice of technical style used in the deadlift by powerlifting athletes and that the relative anthropometric characteristics analyzed do not determine this choice.

Abstract: The present study aimed to compare the vertical jump performance of female athletes from Praia Clube between the first and second rounds of the Brazilian Women's Volleyball Super League regular season, considering only jumps performed during official matches. This is a quantitative, descriptive, and comparative study based on data collected using a vertical jump monitoring system. The sample consisted of 12 professional athletes, and 21 matches were analyzed, including 10 games from the first round and 11 from the second round. Training sessions, playoff matches, and jumps below 15 cm were excluded, resulting in the removal of 777 jumps. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, applying the Mann-Whitney test (p < 0.05). The results showed a significant increase in mean jump height from the first to the second round (38.25 ± 13.63 cm vs. 40.19 ± 13.45 cm; p < 0.05), with no significant differences in jump frequency per match or maximum values (TOP_1 and TOP_10). It is concluded that there was an improvement in neuromuscular capacity throughout the competition, while maintaining stability in external load. Vertical jump monitoring proved to be an important tool for assessing physical performance in volleyball athletes.

Title: Efeitos do direcionamento de atenção na aprendizagem do agachamento livre
Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of attentional focus on the learning of the free squat exercise. The sample consisted of 24 male adolescents who were regular soccer players, divided into two groups: external focus (n = 12) and control (n = 12). The exercise analyzed was the free squat, and the study was organized into pre-test and acquisition phases on the first day, followed by retention and transfer phases (half squat) after seven days. Before the first and third acquisition sets, participants in the external focus group received instructions to observe a video and perform ten repetitions focusing on lowering and raising the bar during the movement. The results indicated improvements in the external focus group, including a significant reduction in knee angular velocity from pre-test to retention and transfer phases, with a similar pattern observed for hip angular velocity. The external focus group also showed a progressive increase in trunk forward inclination during the acquisition phase; however, no differences were observed between groups from pre-test to retention. Additionally, changes in coordination patterns were found: an increase in knee–hip coordination during the distal phase in retention, although no significant differences were observed in transfer, and a tendency toward reduced knee–ankle coordination during the proximal phase in both retention and transfer. Overall, the findings suggest that an external attentional focus promotes improvements in the learning of the free squat exercise compared to a group without attentional guidance.
