Title: A importância dos temas musicais na narrativa de um jogo eletrônico: uma análise do tema “Once Upon a Time” na trilha sonora de Undertale
Abstract: This study investigates the relationship between music and narrative construction in the
video game Undertale (2015), developed by Toby Fox, with an emphasis on how the
soundtrack interacts with the game mechanics and the player’s choices. The research
proposes a musical analysis of recurring themes, examining procedures such as motivic
recurrence, thematic transformation, and melodic reuse. Through the analysis of selected
tracks from the soundtrack, the study seeks to understand how music not only
accompanies the narrative but actively participates in the construction of meaning and in
the game’s metanarrative dimension. The study also considers statements made by the
composer in interviews and commemorative livestreams, in which he discusses his
creative process and the relationship between music and the game’s ludic structure. It is
concluded that, in Undertale, music assumes a structural role, functioning as an element
of memory, thematic identity, and emotional articulation, thus contributing decisively to
the player’s aesthetic and narrative experience, while also contributing to an expanded
understanding of the concept of leitmotif in interactive media by highlighting its dynamic,
relational nature and its dependence on player agency.

Abstract: Ballads were the most celebrated objects of study among Anglophone folklore scholars of the late nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century. The 1950s saw important changes take place, especially regarding the musical investigation of traditional productions, which led to impactful ruptures with the views and methods of earlier folklorists. In this sense, the present text casts a critical eye on the important body of work by Bertrand Harris Bronson, which is temporally situated within this rupture, while nevertheless maintaining a methodological foundation essentially grounded in the notions of the earliest British and American folklorists. This work will focus primarily on his collection, The Traditional Tunes of the Child Ballads, in which more than 4,000 melodic variants, drawn from different collectors and various collections, are classified and grouped. A brief historiography of English-language folklore studies is necessary, without which the critique of Bronson's work loses substance, since his assertions concerning what he called Anglo-Celtic folklore are embedded within a seminal discourse that portrayed non-literate musical practices along ethnic lines. The present work analyzes, through the substantial gains in tools and analytical approaches from ethnomusicology, the limitations and contributions of the theoretical framework created by Bronson.

Title: Iniciação musical por meio do trompete: uma proposta de ensino-aprendizagem
Abstract: Over the years, the trumpet has gained significant space in a wide variety of musical contexts, styles, and cultural expressions, driven by its historical development. The instrument, as we know it today, underwent an evolutionary process until it incorporated three pistons and offered a greater variety of timbrals. Initially, its use was not integrated into all musical styles or events. However, over time, the trumpet gained increasing prominence, allowing its inclusion in different musical settings and the exploration of its sonic possibilities. This recognition solidified its relevance in the job market, allowing it to be performed in diverse contexts, such as Carnival, wedding ceremonies, funerals, orchestras, symphonic bands, and big bands. And of course, the instrument also has a vast literature of solo performances, covering both classical and popular styles. It is common to find videos of musicians performing solo, or with the trumpet as the predominant instrument, on platforms like YouTube. Examples of solo trumpet performances are found in genres such as jazz, blues, and Brazilian choro. Due to this diversity of performances, the demand for the instrument increases. Thus, as in all other areas of professional activity, trumpeter players must possess a certain level of proficiency—that is, technical, theoretical, cultural, and aesthetic knowledge of their instrument, such as timbre variation through mutes, timbre and tessitura variation through variations within the trumpet family: C trumpet, Eb trumpet, flugelhorn. Therefore, trumpeter players must be equipped with information on this topic. The first step taken by trumpet students is to seek methods and methodologies that assist or enable them to perform. During this search, they may find information that is often poorly organized. Turning to the internet for information ends up being a common alternative, as the multiple online platforms provide easy and quick access to this content. This work aims to contribute to the process of teaching and learning music through the trumpet, addressing some of the main technical foundations essential to the training and development of trumpeter players.
